A Benefit for Hope

The Youth Leadership Bedford (YLB) Class of 2023 is a group of 20 seniors, representing our BCS high schools and Webb School, who are dedicated leaders in their respective schools and rising leaders for our community. They have spent time this school year learning about the inner workings of Bedford County and discovering ways in which they can make a difference.

Each year, the class completes a service project. In recent years, there have been multiple mental-health related tragedies of school-age children in Bedford County. These tragedies have left a profound impact on the lives of students and their families. Considering these events and the importance of mental health overall, this year’s class has chosen to host a mental health awareness benefit and dinner event on April 15, 2023, from 4:30 – 8:00 PM called “A Benefit for Hope.” The event will be hosted at Shelbyville Central High School. Their goal is to remove the stigma surrounding mental health in Bedford County and bring awareness to the resources available for those who need help. All proceeds will be allocated toward scholarships for students who need counseling but are not in a financial position to afford it.

The event will be a fun night including dinner, music, speakers, mental health resources/booths, and both a live and silent auction. Please see the attached flyer to purchase tickets for the dinner event.

It is so encouraging that our youth are seeing the importance of good mental health and getting involved! But, they really need your help in getting people to this event, not only to raise money for an important cause, but also to hear from experts in the mental health field and learn about what resources are available for our community.
